Update for the Week

Posted on Wed, Oct 14, 2015

Parents,

A few points of interest from last night meeting:

1.  There will be a canoe safety training session at Salem Lake THIS SUNDAY (10/18) at 1:30.  Your Scout needs to be there.  This could last up to 2 hours.

2. PLC next Tuesday (10/20) at 6:30

3. Roanoke River trip October 24,25.  Your Scout needs to have already eaten breakfast and be at the Hut by 7am Saturday morning.  We are stopping along the way for lunch (fast food) so please send lunch money. We will be stopping for lunch on the return trip as well, make sure your son has enough money to buy lunch both ways.

Our plan is to be back at the Hut Sunday afternoon aroung 3:30 to 4pm.  We will have the boys call parents about 30 minutes prior to arrival.  The trip consists of canoeing on the Roanoke River, camping on platforms over the water on the river, night canoeing, canoeing back to the drop off point Sunday morning.  Camping in tents on platforms over the river provides very little insulation from the cooler weather, your son was educated about cold weather camping last night.  Please review this information with them and make sure they pack appropriately.  We will not have access to drinking water during this trip, your son should pack at least 2 liters of water (Nalgene bottles or something else that will not crush/leak).

The boys will be patrol cooking (cooking together in their groups), they will be making a grocery list next week.  We will need a grocery shopper family for this trip, please discuss with your son.

Everything in your sons pack needs to be in ziploc bags just in case.......We are traveling on water.

POPCORN!!! Keep Selling!

October 31st - Service Project - Meet at the Hut, head out to Walker Rd. for trash pickup.  A few hours at most.

Feel free to contact me with any questions.  Have a great week, see you Sunday at the Lake.
