We have lost of a founding Troop Member and lifetime Scouter

Vernon Gray Martin, Jr. died November 13, 2016 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born August 5, 1951 and was the son of the late Vernon Gray Martin Sr. and Edna Saylor Martin, and was a resident of Pfafftown. A Graduate of West Forsyth High School, he was a long time member of Brookstown United Methodist Church, and was employed by Quality Oil.
Over the past 54 years, Gray was deeply involved in scouting through many roles in the Old Hickory Council. He was an Eagle Scout and Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a recipient of the Association’s Roy M. Hinshaw Memorial Award, the Raven Award, and the Silver Beaver Award. Gray was a founder of the Council’s Historical Association in 1993, and of its Raven Knob Boy Scout Museum in 1998,
as well as a longtime staff member at Camp Raven Knob.
Mr. Martin is survived by his aunt Eleanor Barnes, and cousins Randy and Kristin Shields, Robin Borthwick, Anne Barnes, Clara Wells, John Barnes.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Brookstown United Methodist Church, Pfafftown with Rev. Chip Webb officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service, with the burial at Forsyth Memorial Park immediately following the service.
