Hello fellow scouters,
Jimmy, myself, and the team have decided that the best action moving forward would be to POSTPONE the Klondike Derby originally scheduled for this weekend. Several important factors led to this decision. The decision by Forsyth County schools to close all day Friday heavily impacted this decision. We were contacted by several Scoutmasters and unit leaders who had valid concerns from parents about the condition of neighborhood roads and a shortage of transportation. Some were concerned about being able to access their trailer from Church parking lots that may freeze overnight. A couple patrols notified us early this afternoon that they were either not attending or reducing the number of participants originally slated to attend. We also considered the damage that cars and trailers would inflict on the Dillon property due to mud and slush while leaving camp. Lastly, our neighboring district, Hanging Rock scheduled their Klondike for this weekend and elected to postpone early this afternoon. I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences or issues this causes because of short notice. This was a difficult decision, but ultimately was influenced by ensuring the safety of our scouts, leaders, and parents.
The date of our potential Klondike makeup would be either February 16-18 or February 23-25. Please respond to a weekend that works for your unit by January 30th and we will send a message confirming the new date based on the outcome of the response. If there is a conflict with the makeup date, we will refund your unit the money at the council office.
Appreciate your commitment to Scouting!
